What's included

What every SDS audit checks.

Format and completeness

All 16 sections and required subsections present, in the order and format each market requires.

Classification against composition

Section 2 checked against the ingredients in section 3, the data in sections 9 and 11, and the current cut-offs.

Label consistency

Pictograms, signal word and statements on the label compared with section 2, including the precedence rules.

Language versions

French and English versions compared line by line for products sold in Canada.

Up to date with the rules

Checked against the amended HPR, HazCom 2024, the EU's new hazard classes and recent harmonised classifications.

Supplier SDS review

For importers and distributors: whether a supplier's SDS can be passed on as it is, or needs local changes.

Deliverables

A status for every SDS, and the fix for every finding.

The report opens with the overall picture, then lists each finding with the section concerned, why it matters and what to change.

How it works

From first email to final file.

  1. Inventory

You send the SDSs, or a product list, and tell us where each product is sold.

  2. Triage

Every SDS gets a first pass for format, date, language and supplier details, so the riskiest are reviewed first.

  3. Detailed review

Classification, composition, label elements and market-specific requirements are checked section by section.

  4. Report

You receive a status for every SDS, findings ranked by severity, and the fix for each one.

  5. Optional fixes

We can update the SDSs under a separate fixed quote, or your team can work from the report.

Questions

SDS audits: common questions

Do we need to send our formulas?

Not for a format and consistency check. To confirm that the classification matches the composition, we need the formula, and it is treated as confidential.

Can you audit SDSs from our suppliers?

Yes. Importers and distributors often need to know whether a supplier's SDS can be passed on as it is. The audit tells you which ones can, and what to change in the others.

What does the report look like?

A summary of every SDS with its status, a list of findings ranked by severity with the section concerned and the fix, and a spreadsheet you can use to track the work.

What happens after the audit?

You decide. We can update the SDSs under a separate fixed quote, or your team can work from the report.

Not sure where your SDSs stand?

Send one SDS for a free spot-check. You get a short written summary within one business day.
